Mowing-
Once the snow is gone and the turf begins to thaw, lawns should be cleaned up of debris. The first mowing should be short to give the turf and root system a wake up (usually in March). Then regular mowing at a height of 2 to 3 inches and mulching if possible is best for your lawn at this point. If you mulch during growing season you will want to mow every 4 days. This will help with conserve water and help prevent stress related funguses. If you need more information, you can call our office for a mowing fact sheet. Power raking isn't usually necessary except in severe cases where there is more than 1 inch of thatch. If less than 1 inch, core aeration is a great way to control thatch and promote overall turf health. We also can offer a liquid organic based de-thatching process that works well (but has a strong odor and is slow). It isn't hard on turf like power raking and provides some great micro nutrients to your soil. If you want to know how much thatch you have and what is the best method of control give us a call we can take a look for you and make a recommendation.
AERATION VS. POWER RAKING: We highly recommend aerating your lawn on a yearly or bi-yearly basis. (see notes under Aeration in Additional Services). Power raking should only be done very early or late in the season, otherwise it can be too stressful and damaging to the turf. Aeration is also important in helping fight moss and certain lawn diseases and fungus. If you power rake, do so before the end of March. Power raking late stresses turf. Fall is a great time to aerate. Call us to get on the schedule. We also offer Organic De-Thatch to solve your thatch problems. (see notes under Organic De-thatch in Additional Services) |

Soil Drench / Injections: Our injections changed in 2008, as new research has shown that soil drenching is as effective, or more effective than injections done at the dripline of trees and shrubs. These are additional services from the traditional tree program of spraying a topical insecticide throughout the season on your trees and shrubs. We use the same product we used to use for injections, so pricing remains the same as they were. If you need more information about this give us a call 1-800-LAWNCARE. We have two options for injections of trees so we still can provide that service. Thank you for your understanding
Watering: Trees, shrubs and other planted material compete with the lawn and each other for water. Be sure to deep water trees and shrubs at least 2 to 3 times a month. They will let you know if they are not receiving enough water from either sprinkling or rain fall. In the summer and fall months you should hose down shrubs with high pressure water to help prevent spider mite damage.
Spiders! Spiders! and more Spiders! Spiders have been exceptionally bad this year. We strongly recommend our Spider Barrier Program on the exterior of your house. This program consists of 4 applications (Spring, early Summer, late Summer & Fall) and is guaranteed for 30 days for only $49.95 per application or $159.80 for the program for a single family residence! Outlying areas cost $59.95 or $199.80 for the full program. Call for more information.
